           The age-old question is: do I need an app or a website?

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

            (Maybe to someone, somewhere.) You’ve probably heard that every business needs a website, but what about an app? What’s the difference? Is it more expensive? How is it done? In this post, I will try to demystify websites and apps, illustrate the pros and cons of each, and give example situations of when to use an app vs. a website, and vice versa.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             So let’s start at the beginning. In simple language, what is a website, what is an app, and how do they compare?
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             In simplest terms, a website is accessed on demand by entering a domain (www.example.com) into a web browser on a supported device. It is downloaded from a web server every time you visit the site (some files are cached, but again we are keeping this simple). Many devices support browsing the web—including desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablets, phones, and other devices. Websites had to adapt to function correctly on all these screen and interaction types. Websites went from static pages in a fixed design that only few would access to a dynamic and flexible property that has changed our business and personal lives forever. You have probably witnessed, or even have, a website that has failed the test of time. I’m talking about the buggy, insecure, outdated, desktop-only site that takes a wizard to update (which may explain why it hasn’t been updated in years). Having an outdated website can become a bigger liability than not having one at all. Modern sites use “responsive design” techniques to automatically shift the site design depending on device type. Making updates has also become much easier, and the possible uses and functionality of websites have expanded dramatically. Websites have become the gold standard avenue for businesses to market, engage and sell to customers.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             So what about apps?
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             “Apps are expensive and difficult to build &amp;amp; maintain.” I’ve heard more times than I care to count. While apps require special processes and involve multiple distribution channels (think Google Play and Apple’s App Store), apps aren’t necessarily out of reach and, in fact, can be the perfect tool in many situations. Once installed, apps are highly visible and instantly accessible on the user’s phone. Apps also benefit from superior location-based features, notification capabilities, and offline usage. Apps work especially well for tourism/location directories, article publication, news, community/chat, company intranet, and many other situations. Your app can be free to use–or you can charge for the app or offer in-app subscriptions. With the right partner, companies can produce an app faster, easier, and less expensive than they imagined.

             Technology is ever-changing. There’s a new kid on the block you may want to meet.

             Have you ever heard of Progressive Web Apps (PWA)? This relatively new technology treats a website like a mobile app. You won’t find PWA on the app store. PWAs can be accessed on any web browser without installing anything, although they can be easily added to your home screen for future use. It may seem like PWA is the answer, but it’s likely more complicated than that. As with any emerging technology, it has a place but also has many variables and won’t serve every situation. To make things even more complicated, in some cases it is possible to adapt websites or native apps to progressive web apps.

            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             So which is better for you?
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;

             That depends. Your goals and unique situation will dictate what is needed. A website is crucial and may take priority from a marketing perspective.     &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Maybe your car isn’t as shiny as it used to be, your house is too small, or your website is a dinosaur.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Websites, unfortunately, don’t age like wine. Site content and technology can quickly become outdated, irrelevant, and ultimately, a liability. Maybe your site was never that great. Do yourself, your business and customers a favor with a website upgrade. Let’s examine the basic website redesign process and some best practices.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           First, analyze your current website. What do you and don’t you like about it? Does it have any usable content? You can salvage and update some written content from the old site in many cases. The content for the new site should be concise, relevant, accurate, up-to-date, and resonate with your visitors. (Look up my previous post titled “Writing Effective Content” for more information.) There is usually some content writing/editing involved in a website redesign.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Images are crucial to an engaging website. That’s why we should start on your new site with the highest quality pictures possible. Use original or lightly compressed JPG images (or PNG for graphics). We only want to pull photos off the old website when absolutely necessary. Using old site images can result in blurry, blocky, and generally undesirable images. It’s also best to avoid using stock images. If you don’t have any quality images on hand, this might be a good juncture to take some new ones.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Make sure you have a quality copy of your logo. A PNG with transparency is best, but a JPG or converted vector file (such as Illustrator) can also work. If you’re not satisfied with your logo, maybe this would be a good time to consider updating or redesigning your logo.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Start preparing other files, documents, videos, etc. that are relevant to the new website.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Once your content is ready, we need to consider site navigation and page structure. What content should we present on which pages, and how can we design efficient navigation? An effective site requires equal content, business, and visitor considerations.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Every website should be unique, but the ease of use and clarity should always take president over style. Even if they think your site is cool, confused or frustrated visitors are much less likely to convert. Build a useful website of substance. Visitors and search engines will thank you.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If your old site has popular pages that other websites link to: 1. use the same URL for the new page (site.com/samepage) or 2. create URL redirects that will automatically take visitors who click an old link to the new page (site.com/oldpage → site.com/newpage). These two strategies also help search engines update your search listing following the site migration.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           When it’s time to launch, log in to your domain registrar and update the DNS records to connect your existing domain to the new website. The website may be live in a few minutes after updating the domain records. Because it may take 24-48 hours for the DNS update to fully propagate across the web, it may be a good idea to wait a few days before announcing your new website.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Once the new site is live, you may cancel your old website hosting service (if applicable). Ensure you have backed up any important files from the site/server before canceling service.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Writing Effective Content</title>

           We all want to be engaging, right?

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           I’ve found that business owners and managers often have a hard time turning their value proposition into words—and understandably so. Marketing is complex, and writing marketing copy is no exception. Here are a few tips to help you write with more confidence and effectiveness.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h5&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           1. Engage
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h5&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Don’t drone on robotically about the technical specifications of your business. You don’t want the presenter at your conference to talk to his shoes in monotone about something no one cares about. Instead, be considerate of your audience (or readers). You are passionate about every facet of your business. Not everyone will be. Make it about them, not just you or your business.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h5&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           2. Benefits. Benefits. Benefits.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h5&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Your audience wants to know what’s in it for them. Transform all the details into a concise summary that displays the unique benefits of doing business with you. Your audience may not be (and probably are not) experts in your field, product, or service. Explain why you are the best choice, in terms that your mother or that guy you met at the superstore would understand. Your shovel handles are ¾ inch diameter carbon fiber blended with ISO-853 titanium alloy? (I entirely made that up, by the way.) Don’t let that phrase be your website headline or product introduction. Instead, say something about your shovels being “light as a feather so you can shovel longer” and “stronger than steel so it will last longer.” Then deeper in the content, you can provide more details while still emphasizing the benefits. Some people will care about these details, but most just want the benefits your product or service will provide.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h5&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           3. Social Proof
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h5&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Build credibility with customer reviews and quotes. Potential customers want to see that others have had success with your product or service. Ask some of your customers to write a testimonial or review. A photo, first name, and city of the reviewer are optional but helpful. Including their positive evaluation of your business can help persuade someone who may be on the fence. Don’t use doctored or overly generic testimonials. Besides being unethical, fake testimonials can adversely affect your credibility. Always ask for formal permission before using anyone’s personal information in your marketing.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h5&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           4. Keep it Simple
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h5&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Sure, you’re smart. But you don’t want to lose people with $10 words and phrases. Instead, target a 6th or 7th-grade reading level. Be concise and use simpler, action words. Avoid passive voice. You can still be creative while maintaining readability. We live in a distracted generation, and keeping your writing simple and to the point will ensure it is understood quickly and accurately.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h5&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           5. Be Useful
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h5&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Make your marketing content valuable to your audience. Examples include:

If you use creative and relevant content on your website, it is much more likely to be noticed and shared. Who knows—you could be the next viral sensation.

            It’s not quite an app, or just another website. Say hello to the

           Progressive Web App (PWA)
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            So you’re familiar with apps. You visit your phone’s app marketplace, the App Store on iOS, or Google Play on Android. Then you search the marketplace, explore apps, read reviews, etc. This process should end in an app install if you are successful in your search. After installation, the app lives on your phone. It’s convenient, effortless to access, and specific app features are even available even if you lose your internet connection. Apps are geared toward mobile devices with smaller screens.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Compare that with a
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="/web-design"&gt;&#xD;
      
           website
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            . You need to go through a web browser to access a website. The site is accessed on-demand, meaning you need to navigate to its address and re-download the site files on every visit. You can’t add a regular website to your home screen as you would with an app, although you can bookmark pages for future reference. Websites aren’t available for offline viewing—though websites can be accessed instantly without needing to install anything. Modern websites are also optimized for all major device types, from smartphones to desktop computers. Websites are also typically cheaper and easier to publish than apps.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             I hope it is obvious now that apps and websites are distinct media and have unique pros and cons. Would it be possible to fuse the benefits and features of websites and apps?
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Enter the progressive web app.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            For simplicity, think of a progressive web app as a website that’s highly optimized for mobile devices. A PWA “website” employs new technology standards that allow for a more integrated mobile experience. You can access a PWA through a web browser, like a website. A PWA will often be installed on a subdomain of your primary website domain, such as app.domain.com. The PWA is fully functional in your browser, with no installation required. If you want to add the PWA to your device, most browsers offer an option to “install” the PWA. The install process varies by browser and operating system but often involves opening your browser menu and selecting “add to home screen” or “install app.” Once downloaded via your browser, the PWA appears to act like a native app (operating system dependent). It can show up in your list of apps and be added to your home screen for easy access. Certain features of a PWA can be accessed offline. A PWA can also be accessed by multiple device types, including desktop and laptop computers. However, PWA designs and implementations can vary wildly. PWA standards are also still emerging and have mixed support among devices and operating systems, especially older ones.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
            Let’s look at the best uses cases for each of these tools. A website is great for accessing information or taking action quickly. For example, finding store hours, company information or locations, submitting a contact form, etc. An app becomes more useful for recurring or longer-term use. A tourism or attraction guide, company intranet, news or article source, radio station, and event calendar may benefit from a dedicated app. A progressive web app could potentially serve all of these uses, but at this juncture is often a supplement to native apps and a traditional website.
            &#xD;

            SEO is one of the top buzzwords in the online marketing world. But what does it mean, how is it done, and how much difference does it make? The answer is multi-leveled and has undoubtedly changed over time (maybe even since this post was written). To keep this easy to understand and relevant for longer, I will talk about principles and best practices. Keep these concepts in mind to establish a better relationship with all search engines and maybe even your website visitors (it certainly can’t hurt). This post applies to Google Search, Bing, and other current and future search engines.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             Most business owners wish for a “magic bullet” SEO approach that will guarantee higher rankings, more traffic, higher sales, and a golden pony (sorry, I just had to throw that in). The truth is, there isn’t a single, easy trick for search engine success today. Search engines have gotten smart, know how to spot trickery, and use increasingly advanced methods to rank websites.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             My first recommendation is to resist the urge to get cute and try every old-school method and Reddit trick to increase rank. At a party of strangers, you can’t slap everyone and expect to instantly be best friends. The same is true of search engines. There is a courtship phase of sorts. The search engine has to decide if you’re the real deal or just artificially trying to get attention.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             The key is consistency and relevancy. Provide real, unique content on your website. Focus on your visitor, not the search engine. Search engines want to provide the most relevant results for every search. To do so, they increasingly see websites from a visitor’s perspective. If it’s good for the visitor, it’s probably good for the ranking too. You can’t be all things to all people. Focus on your niche, and provide unique content and an easy user experience. This allows you to provide real value to customers and tips the search engine that you’re an expert in this niche. Your focus could be a product or service, industry in a service area, specialization, etc. Find something that makes you notable among the competition and support this unique value proposition on every page of your site.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             Also, think about your domain name (example.com). The best practice is to keep it short, relevant, and memorable. For SEO purposes, it helps to include keywords in the domain name. These can be your business/organization name or other important keywords. So if your business name is Brex Medical in Omaha, NE, a good domain name might be brexmedical.com or brexmedicalomaha.com. Search engines assign significant weight to the domain name, so including important search terms can be beneficial.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             Make your website accessible. Don’t include uncompressed images or fancy code-heavy effects (or gasp, ANY Adobe Flash). This not only causes your website to load slowly but will also penalize your search ranking. Ensure your website loads quickly, fully supports mobile devices, is easy to navigate, minimizes the number of clicks required to find information, and supports users with disabilities. I don’t have time to go through all of these today, but this should give you an idea. Use a good,
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="/web-design"&gt;&#xD;
      
           modern website platform
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            , fill out all image alt tags, and generally look at the site through your visitor’s eyes to provide the best possible experience.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             Then, ensure your website employs current technology, web standards, and security practices. Think of a website like a living, changing being. It needs to adapt to new standards, best practices, and security vulnerabilities. Make sure updates and plugins are up-to-date. If your site is older, your entire site may be due a refresh. Audit your plugins and services. Are they also adapting to the times and still the best choice for your business? Does your site natively support mobile devices? This is a big one. Search engines will punish your rankings if you aren’t optimized for mobile. Your site should also be secured with SSL encryption. SSL ensures that the visitor’s connection to your website is secure and cannot be intercepted by third parties.

        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             Have you thought about starting a blog? I know it takes your valuable time, and you may not consider yourself a writer. The benefits abound, though. Not only does a blog engage with your visitors and provide helpful information—it will also improve your SEO ranking by providing rich and fresh content to the index. Well-written and targeted blog posts can serve as an excellent source of search engine traffic.
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             
            &#xD;
        &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
        
             SEO also transcends your website. Do other sites consider you trustworthy and valuable? Search engines scour links across the web. Does an established and highly-ranked site link to yours? Search engines consider this an endorsement for your website. Having high-quality “backlinks” to your website can significantly impact your ranking. Don’t try to cheat the system, though. Having backlinks from only spammy or illegitimate websites won’t help your cause (it may hurt). Focus on quality, perhaps niche, content on your site that would encourage links. Other ideas for encouraging quality backlinks may include: guest writing articles, providing something valuable to web influencers, sending newsworthy information to local media, sponsorships, trades, etc. There are many creative ways to go about this. Just make sure it is legitimate and provides value for both sides.

           Huntrex is helping Neligh, NE celebrate its local history with a new tourism app.

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           This northeast Nebraska community received a grant from History Nebraska in May 2021 for the creation of an app-based walking tour of Neligh’s downtown historic district, historic attractions, museums, and other tourism related destinations. Some of the planned stops are the Trail of Tears marker, the Old Mill, the Antelope County Museum, the New Moon Theater, White Buffalo Girl’s gravesite, the Pierson Museum, the one-room schoolhouse, and the Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           "The City of Neligh is rich in history," said Lauren Sheridan-Simonsen, Director, Neligh Economic Development Office. "Preserving, protecting, and promoting Neligh’s rich history and sharing that history with community members as well as visitors will help others learn about our one-of-a-kind community."

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           The app is available for download on Google Play for Android devices. The app also uses Progressive Web App (PWA) technology to enable all major device types to access the app, with no app store download required.

            This partnership resulted in the production of seven promotional videos, ongoing broadcast of these 30-second videos on local television as PSAs, a byway audio tour CD, and a

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="https://www.sandhillsjourney.com/" target="_blank"&gt;&#xD;
      
           new byway website
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           . This collective work helped establish the Sandhills Journey as a designation, complete with a virtual guide for those making the 272-mile journey through the Sandhills. The Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway awarded Huntrex the 2017 Friend of the Byway award for the television marketing campaign. Huntrex updated the byway logo when the Sandhills Journey received the national designation in 2021. This partnership is ongoing, with a dedicated app for the byway now in development. The Sandhills Journey National Scenic Byway app will further in byway promotion, as well as trip planning and on-the-road assistance for byway visitors.

           The works above help celebrate the byway and the unique qualities of the Nebraska Sandhills. The videos/PSAs each dive into a different topic of the byway or the Sandhills and use voice over and immersive visuals to tell the story of the Sandhills Journey. The on-the-road audio tour gives the visitor a comprehensive, insider perspective of the byway. The byway website introduces visitors to the byway and sandhills, promotes events and attractions, offers self-guided tours, and hosts the byway videos. All of these media work together to tell the unique story of the Sandhills Journey National Scenic Byway.

Huntrex employed its thorough understanding of the Sandhills, researched best practices, and employed innovative technology to ensure results for the byway and a positive visitor experience.

           The Sandhills are often described as a hidden gem in Nebraska. The Sandhills Journey and Huntrex defined success as a positive and much broader understanding of the Nebraska Sandhills. The byway and region will jointly benefit from greater area awareness and tourism opportunities. Supporting businesses and attractions along the byway is an equal priority. Promoting tourism along the byway's 272 miles from Grand Island to Alliance, NE is our foremost goal.
